🦋 IC Information
Character Name: Lena.
Age: Fourteen.
Canon: Ducktales 2017.
Canon Point: At the climax of “Friendship Hates Magic”.
Character History: Here. While the wiki gives her the last name of Sabrewing, she’s given that last name after the point in canon I’m taking her from, hence me just keeping it at “Lena”.
Canon Abilities:
Physical –
Lena knows how to fight, and how to fight well, in hand-to-hand combat. However, being a duck, and a kid, she’s incredibly light and probably easy to take down if they act right away.
Mental –
She has a large knowledge of the occult and things of mystical origin and ability.
Magic: -
As a combination of Magica’s magic and a Sumerian Talisman, Lena has the following abilities.
1 – Levitation. Objects she selects with her magic will take on a faint blue glow. The heavier the object, the greater a strain on her physical body. The heaviest she’s been able to levitate is a rail car. She can also levitate herself/others for flight.
2 - Energy bursts. With concentration, she fire off several rounds of pure magical energy at once, large the size of her hands.
At the moment I’m taking her in canon, this is all she thinks she’s capable of doing. But if given proper training, her abilities can expand to include –
1 – Time stopping. She can freeze the present for her and one other person.
2 – Invisibility. She can cloak herself and others/objects to make them impossible to see. However, the longer she has to do this, the greater a strain this goes on the body.
3 – Transfiguration. The ability to transform one thing into another. Given how vague this ability can be (even the show doesn’t go into the full details), if she does learn this in game, I plan to keep it SUPER NERFED to make things fair, like turning a fork into a spoon, a glove into a shoe, etc.
If mods wish it, I can go without these “extra” abilities. I only included it for potential future usage, maybe make it part of a character arc, but again, I have no problem if mods don’t approve. I trust your judgement!
Inventory: What items does your character have with them?
None, just the clothes on her back.
🦋 Personality
- Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
- What mythological creature would your character most like to be? Which do they identify with? Which would they dread being? Feel free to use our Bestiary for reference.
- What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
- What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
- Dark Court – Given Lena’s connection to shadows and darkness, seems like it could fit, plus she was raised by a villain.
- Day Court - “Dismissive, rude, moody, arrogant, abrasive, vain”? Sounds like your average teenager right there.
- Spring Court – Manipulated Webby’s longing for friendship to gain her trust, and has been able to con others in order to get what she wants or get out of danger.
Given Lena could be considered "living" magic, it's pretty easy to say she believes in it. However, she's come to see it as both a blessing and a curse. As far as she sees it, magic has always and only been capable of hurting people - growing up with the abusive Magica as her aunt/creator, Magica taught her to use her abilities to hurt/con others. While Lena's not above using her magic to play tricks on people, she sees it as anyone else would do the same in her shoes. Combined with Magica's constant put-downs, she believes that because she's "made" of magic, she may not be capable of the same emotions as "regular" people. Deep down, she does want to be a good person and maybe use her magic to help others, but in her current mindset, she believes she's just not capable and that her powers could never be used to help others. Even when they did (such as lifting a rail car up and away from Beakly), she framed it as "trying to get in" with the McDuck family.
If asked, Lena would probably pick beasts with claws and and fangs and poison, mostly to sound cool and maybe show off a bit of knowledge. But deep down, she thinks she'd probably have more in common with the Gorgon than she cares to admit, especially if one takes in the origin of Medusa - a woman forced into her hideous monstrous form due to no fault of her own but the petty gods deciding her fate. Lena didn't ask to be made the way she was, and she believes that like the Gorgon, anyone who gets too close will suffer. As for what she'd dread being, anything that can't be seen would make the list, such as the djin or olseen. As much as she doesn't trust people and doesn't trust herself, being utterly alone is is fate that she'd loathe. In canon, while she is currently literally invisible, she struggles to keep her desire to be "real" again as she fears that Webby looking into a way to save her will just hurt Webby in the long run.
The words of the siren wouldn't matter so much as whose voice she hears. Webby has been her best (and so far only) friend, and Lena has become devoted to protecting her to make up for deceiving her - and using that as an excuse to stay with her. She'd rather be stuck in her shadowy, incorporeal form than have her get into any danger. Getting back to the siren, on some level Lena would know that it's a trick, given her upbringing included a lot of teachings about the mystical, not to mention Webby's own nerdy word-dumps. Despite knowing full-well it could be a trick, Lena would follow it regardless, for even the slimmest of chances of it being the real Webby. She feels any danger she could get in would be well-worth it, and a bit of arrogance to believe she'd get out it relatively unharmed. Getting into super specifics, the words in Webby's voice would be along the lines of forgiving Lena for what she did to the McDuck family, and wanting to see her again.
Since "sarcasm" can't be called a personality trait, the next best thing is "too cool for school." Most of the time, Lena tries to put on an air that nothing bothers her, with a deadpan voice and quick to insult another at the drop of a hat. Even when in danger, she usually tries to act like everything is fine and whatever is threatening her isn't that big of a deal. A lot of this is a shield to protect herself from anyone taking advantage of her, as she has the mindset that no one would like her or care about her if she allowed herself to be vulnerable. Too much emotion is a weaknesses, and people will always find a way to exploit weaknesses. But if she wants to trick/con others, she makes the personality a bit more playful, making her victim feel they are "earning" her smiles.
